Role, Scope, and Impact
· Language is the system of communication, without it, GDC cannot connect with the world. Communication is the key especially when GDC operates virtually to connect with diaspora located across the world. We rely on the Translation Team r to ensure our messages are translated accurately and professionally.
Job Purpose
· Responsible for delivering global outreach work and ensuring that GDC’s messages are translated accurately and professionally while leading a team that is most multilingual
Job Duties and Responsibilities
● Taking overall responsibility for the Translation Team and training team members
● Leading the team to translate external and internal information in the languages
● Actively identifying and recruiting volunteers with language and technical translation skills that the team does not currently possess including sign language
● Providing simultaneous or consecutive interpretation at meetings where possible
● Providing all teams translation support
● Creating glossaries and term dictionaries for GDC
● Converting text and audio recording into languages required
● Actively learning different cultures and supporting GDC cultural training
● Reviewing and proofreading GDC documents translated by the team
● Offering more opportunities for strong team members to perform
Expected skillset (Qualifications) including but not limited to:
· Advanced language knowledge
· Outstanding writing skills
· Insightful cultural awareness
· Strong research skills
· Excellent practice translation and review processes
· Professional translation judgment
· Familiarity with UN Languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, German, Kiswahili e.t.c)
· Time-management skills
· Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
· Good knowledge of content editing tools
· Confident and articulate Responsible individual, exhibiting discipline and integrity
· A quick learner, adaptable, and able to work well under pressure
· Good organization and administrative skills
· Excellent attention to detail
