Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the morning of 1 July 2024, before passing along the southwest of Jamaica between 2 and 3 July 2024.

The storm left widespread destruction, especially in the Grenadine Islands (Union Island, Canouan and Mayreau in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carriacou and Petite Martinique in Grenada).

The Initial Rapid Assessment by IOM, focusing on shelter and NFI needs, has been completed as part of the CDEMA-led Rapid Needs Assessment Team (RNAT) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (3-5 July) and Grenada (6-8 July).
In Jamaica, IOM took part in a joint needs assessment led by Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (OPDEM, together with UNICEF, FAO, UNDAC, and UNDP, among others, in: Manchester, Clarendon and Saint Elizabeth.

Amazon shipment of solar lamps and headlamps in partnership with IOM: 1500 going to Jamaica and 1500 to Barbados for onward distribution to SVG and Grenada.

IOM Caribbean stocks prepositioned in Barbados (tarpaulins/ropes, solar lamps and modular/indoor tents) have been delivered to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (as of 7 July) and Grenada (as of 9 July) for onward distribution to affected islands in both countries.

Opportunities/Vacancies

It is natural that when disaster strikes many of us want to drop everything and do everything we can to help. However, the humanitarian responders have specific needs in terms of skills, knowledge, experience, and expertise. Below are some specific opportunities to support the work on the ground based on the needs of the humanitarian actors responding to the emergency.

Post Opportunities

We believe that collectively diaspora can be an accelerator in Ukraine’s recovery, and individually everyone can contribute to it  — even a few hours of your time remotely can make a change for Ukrainians in need.

We also would like to learn more about you. Your skills. Your interests. Whatever you do best and are willing to share with others.

Fill out the form, and we will understand better how you can help rebuilding Ukraine.

  • Maybe you could spend a few hours each month, providing online consultations for a small Ukrainian business?
  • Maybe you could mentor Ukrainians left without income on how to find remote employment?
  • Maybe you can provide psychological consultation to people who experience war trauma?
  • Maybe you could connect Ukrainian entrepreneurs to the markets in the country where you live now?
  • Maybe you can teach English to Ukrainians who will then use it to apply for new jobs?

Such opportunities are endless and all of them will help Ukrainians to be more resilient and to weather the coming storms.

We are looking for a wide range of expertise from mental health professionals to business consultants. It will take you only 5 minutes to fill out the form and after that IOM  will be in touch with you to discuss possible cooperation and match your expertise with the needs we see on the ground.

Donate your expertise. A few hours of your time to build Ukraine’s resilience.

Not all of us have the opportunity to drop everything and leave our day to day lives to support response efforts in person but we can still help our communities affected by the pandemic by supporting first responders working to save lives and safeguard health. IOM is on the ground, providing critical assistance, but more support is needed.

About Integrated Diaspora Services

Integrated Diaspora Services Ltd (IDS) conducted its official launch virtually on March 24, 2021 in the presence of the State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senator, The Honourable Leslie Campbell, other government officials and Global Diaspora leaders. We wish to use this opportunity to formally introduce the company to you.
Integrated Diaspora Services (IDS) is a registered Jamaican Limited Liability Company that focuses primarily on providing solutions to Jamaicans who reside overseas. Integrated Diaspora Services (IDS) is a concierge-like information hub that provides transaction assistance to nationals living abroad that wish to do business in their “home country”. IDS basically forms a bridge to connect the Diaspora to their homeland, a concept that can be replicated across all Diasporas.

The current scope of transactions categorized under the acronym "C.A.R.E" include (but are not limited to) legal matters(property, title matters, criminal& civil litigation, immigration etc.) branding & marketing(business proposals, social media marketing, website creation and maintenance), business registration(sole trader, trading as, limited liability), charity registrations, Government related transactions(trn, renewal of drivers license, citizenship and passport renewal assistance, permits and approvals), construction and property related services (e.g. buying, selling, insuring, surveying, valuating, maintenance, leases, long and short term rentals), training and certification services ( work and study abroad programme) and transport and logistics (airport pick up and drop off, shipping). At the heart of the business is the desire to provide WORLD CLASS SERVICE by leveraging connections (new and existing) and systems that improve transaction speed, accuracy & transparency while stimulating economic growth and development in the country.

IDS is owned and operated by Nordia Teape and Percival Hurditt. Combined, the dynamic and committed duo have more than 30 years of experience in the Financial Services Sector. They also have diverse exposure to other sectors. Although very young, the IDS team strongly believes that increased transaction efficiency will add value to the members of the Caribbean Diaspora which in many ways is lacking now. In order to provide meaningful service and to obtain the necessary feedback, we continuously seek opportunities to partner with the different embassies, consulates, Diaspora offices or diaspora related organizations and connections across the world. IDS has built up a diverse network over the last 10 months. IDS is a member of the Community of Practice for Caribbean Immigrant Entrepreneurs and assisted in marketing and promoting the International Caribbean Diaspora Entrepreneurs' Conference and Trade Show from out of Canada (BIDEM 2020). IDS has strong connections with Diaspora groups such as the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council, Jamaicans Inspired-Jamin (UK), Authentic Caribbean Foundation, Street Hype Community Lifestyle newspaper, Jamaica Association for the Resettlement of Returning Residents Association (JARRR), Jamaican Association in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxemborg, Australia, Barbados, Canada, Africa, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, China, Asia Pacific region and the Middle East to name a few.
