Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the morning of 1 July 2024, before passing along the southwest of Jamaica between 2 and 3 July 2024.

The storm left widespread destruction, especially in the Grenadine Islands (Union Island, Canouan and Mayreau in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carriacou and Petite Martinique in Grenada).

The Initial Rapid Assessment by IOM, focusing on shelter and NFI needs, has been completed as part of the CDEMA-led Rapid Needs Assessment Team (RNAT) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (3-5 July) and Grenada (6-8 July).
In Jamaica, IOM took part in a joint needs assessment led by Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (OPDEM, together with UNICEF, FAO, UNDAC, and UNDP, among others, in: Manchester, Clarendon and Saint Elizabeth.

Amazon shipment of solar lamps and headlamps in partnership with IOM: 1500 going to Jamaica and 1500 to Barbados for onward distribution to SVG and Grenada.

IOM Caribbean stocks prepositioned in Barbados (tarpaulins/ropes, solar lamps and modular/indoor tents) have been delivered to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (as of 7 July) and Grenada (as of 9 July) for onward distribution to affected islands in both countries.

Such opportunities are endless and all of them will help Ukrainians to be more resilient and to weather the coming storms.

Not all of us have the opportunity to drop everything and leave our day to day lives to support response efforts in person but we can still help our communities affected by the pandemic by supporting first responders working to save lives and safeguard health. Grenada hosts the first regional consultation on diaspora engagement in the Caribbean

The Office of Diaspora Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grenada, with the support of IOM, hosts a consultation aimed at initiating dialogue and exploring new opportunities, challenges, lessons learnt, and best practices on how proactive diaspora engagement can contribute to the development of Caribbean countries.
