How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies?, Diasporas as influencers: how does the diaspora contribute positively to their societies through the use of technology? | In the times of a heavy influence of a post colonial era, it has been a great leap for Africans living in the diaspora to communicate, eat, enhance their standard of living and to cater for their accommodation needs. In this series of photographs, I explore the overlapping contrasts of poverty and wealth. On the one hand the people are living in abject poverty, however, technology and infrastructure seems to be evolving in a certain direction. It brings the question of how do we asa society neglect basic needs over multinational projects, which only benefit a few? Vegetable sales and the background of a cluttered and chaotic infrastructure/buildings, overpower him.Powerlines, telephone towers are erect. In the background a community farms , keeping to their traditions of their roots and although of migration, they are still using their skills which they were handed down by their forefathers. Community, connection, cultivation, care. |

The amazing food, cultures, sunsets and most importantly the friendships built with people from other countries too based on our mutual interests and passions. The challenges can be overwhelming and sometimes hinder our ability to see the silent beauties of the new places that we find ourselves in. It also showcases some visible effects of climate change which i relate to as silence. Most of the effects of climate change are described by silence. When there are no trees animals leave and therefore the space become silent. When rivers are dry there is no more sound because of the missing water flow so the river becomes silent. When there is a drought and floods people die and therefore the spaces become silent. All these silences are audible as they indicate a lack of something. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies?, Diasporas helping their communities: what is it like to assist communities during a crisis? | Existence of diasporas is very important factor what needs to be discussed nowadays. World is facing increased number of external and internal migration. Several cultures are affected my forced migration, and prevalent situation may become a future concern. Many years ago relatives of Elena have been sent to another country due to political changes in the country at that time. After some years the situation has been changed, however that family became integrated in a new society. Nowadays they keep Russian traditions for honey processing and coping with the harsh weather conditions that affect not only their budget but also budget of others involved. Protection of diaspora must be addressed, and maybe the next step is to use internet technologies to help Elena for achieving her goal. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? | What could be more rare to be in contact with a culture so different than your own. Leaving the Caribbean, for thousands of kilometers away from its cultural space, do you feel acculturated? No, we embrace the culture of the other, we learn. Through us, we get involved in spreading Caribbean culture to others and vice versa. Being on a new land is accepted to respect the culture, but also to share its culture, Fez which is the very soul of Moroccan culture has this particularity to enrich our cultural vision and rekindle the flame of a shock culture between two different areas. But it is also encouraging others not to let themselves be indoctrinated by prejudice, but in turn to fully experience this Berber culture. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? | With “Origins”, Tidou attempts to define the concept of culture and how it shapes through time and space. Her works disembowel the cultural layers embodied by a person and shows the various identities one could carry. Every day the selves of multicultural people imbricate, using the correct layout to occupy more space in reality – or being repressed to blend in a specific environment. The goal of „Origins“ is to create a visual conversational space for and with diasporas. In each photograph, the border of their country of “Origin” is the line that connects the different identities carried by these people part of the diaspora in Europe. (Kenya, Santa Lucia , Zimbabwe, Gambia borders are visible on these photographs) . Crossing the physical border of our country is mostly when we start developping other identities. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies?, Youth and their roots: what is it like to be born or grow up as a member of the diaspora; how can the youth connect with their homeland?, Diasporas helping their communities: what is it like to assist communities during a crisis? | This series depict the shared carnage indiscriminate burning of natural habitat and deforestation has on the environment and life in general . Despite the wave of migration occasioned by the search for better living conditions, escape from insecurity and other adverse conditions, humans have historically found ways to adapt and collaborate for survival. A common prevalent theme is the sense of belonging derived from a shared ethnicity, religion, and other avenues for community building noticeable in the diaspora. These support structures foster cohesion amidst diversity and inadvertently the kind of competition that drives growth both home and abroad. Hopefully this series of photographs is a wake up call for preservative efforts geared towards maintaining our natural habitats regardless of geographical location. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? | The Rohingya is a minor Muslim ethnic group living in Myanmar for centuries. However, due to the racism and many other socio-political issues accelerated by the majority in Myanmar, they became a victim of categorizing themselves as Bengali descendants; the recent migration began in August 2017 from Myanmar to Bangladesh. These people are deprived of their ethnic rights by their own country, which includes non-enlistment with 135 other official ethnic groups, as the Myanmar government has regarded them as stateless refugees from Bangladesh. Over one million Rohingyas used to live in Myanmar, and they are the most persecuted people in the world; their current exodus has made them more vulnerable. Diaspora to Rohingyas is still a nightmare. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? | I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria,2022 My family and I relocated to Manitoba, Canada. In many ways, Canada is a good country to live in. The quality of life is high, and there are plenty of job opportunities I've enjoyed my time living in Canada for the diversity and the culture. Canada’s culture is underpinned by its tolerance, respect, and equality. Diaspora communities represent and maintain a culture different from those of the countries within which they are located. Powwows are celebrations that showcase Indigenous music, dances, regalia, food and crafts. powwows are often open to non-Indigenous and Métis and Inuit. This celebration helps express sense of belonging in multiple societies in Canada. We respect the efforts that Indigenous people have made to preserve and celebrate their culture despite centuries of oppression (that continues today). Thus, the relationship between homelands and diasporas becomes quite significant, it remains understudied. |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? |

How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies? | I began these photographic series a few years ago, while exploring my sense of belonging in foreign landscapes. The connection between my homeland and new land is nature. Being in nature for me is like being with my mother. It provides a sense of comfort and nurture, regardless of how different the landscapes of both homes feel. I express my sense of belonging by searching for pieces that remind me of home. However, it is a very complex feeling that moves me to photograph intuitively. For this series, I photographed myself, objects I brought from home, and my surroundings. I present this project as a series of diptychs. By juxtaposing the images, I hope to create a dialogue between them. |
