The Danish Refugee Council engages civil society actors rooted in and/or with direct ties to the Global South, and therefore considers diaspora transnational civil society actors an integral part of the civil society they work with.

The iDiaspora Team is pleased to share with our global community the first iDiaspora newsletter.  Diasporas have invaluable economic, cultural, human, and social capital for societies. Governments, organizations, and partners across the world have recognized their potential as development actors in multiple initiatives. This newsletter seeks to highlight major diaspora stories, successes, events, resources, and more that are relevant to both diasporas themselves and their supporters. 

This report reflects the proceedings of the European Conference “Diaspora Protection Information for Afghans at Risk”, held on 12-13 June 2022, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The purpose of this report is to share the discussion points held between the conference participants on the importance of the protection information on safe migration for Afghans at risk and the role of diaspora organizations (DOs) in providing this information. This conference brought together 87 participants from diaspora organizations, INGO, UN, government donors, and research partners.

This report provides an overview of key good practices of diaspora organizations that engage in humanitarian response. These fourteen good practices were selected after consultations with diaspora organizations as well as institutional humanitarian actors. Each good practice is illustrated by two concrete examples of diaspora organizations who respond to crisis and emergency situations. The examples cover the variety of diaspora engaging in humanitarian assistance, in terms of nationalities, countries of residence and humanitarian sectors.

This publication outlines a new approach to mainstreaming migration into local development plans to harness the role of local authorities as key actors in migration and development initiatives. 

The IOM Germany Diaspora Newsletter puts a spotlight on the important work of diaspora organizations in Germany, while supporting them to reach a wider audience. The Newsletter also features highlights from IOM's diaspora engagement. On 1, 4, and 5 of April 2022, the IOM and the Irish Government co-hosted the Global Diaspora Summit (GDS) intending on assisting States and relevant stakeholders in measuring and evaluating their achievements towards Objective 19 of the Global Compact for Safe Migration (GCM).
