This publication stems from the need to understand the changes occurred within the Afghan diaspora in Italy following the Taliban's return to power in August 2021. Based on a qualitative methodology (through literature review and collection of primary data), this report maps Afghan diaspora groups and organizations in Italy, identifying their intervention priorities and activities in Italy and in Afghanistan, in order to explore engagement opportunities in response to the Afghan crisis. 

The Data for Good unit at Meta and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) partnered to develop, launch and analyze a pair of online campaigns to raise awareness about the impact of recurring natural disasters in the Philippines in Filipino American communities. The campaigns ultimately reached over 10 million people and demonstrated the efficacy of digital outreach for engaging communities in disaster recovery efforts and transferring knowledge of safe shelter messaging.

Countries in South America have a long history of engagement with their nationals abroad. This repository seeks to compile and categorize some of the most promising practices developed during this history to facilitate exchange and cooperation among actors in the region.

The Regional Assessment report highlights how diasporas from South America are contributing to the development of their countries of origin, and how these countries can work with diaspora communities to maximize their impact. This multilevel study gathered primary data from six countries using a common participatory methodology and tools, which included more than 120 interviews and several focus groups with representatives from the government, civil society, and diaspora communities in each country.

Este Diagnóstico Regional releva cómo las diásporas de América del Sur contribuyen al desarrollo de sus países de origen y cómo éstos, de manera individual y en colaboración, pueden empoderar a las comunidades de la diáspora y así maximizar el impacto de sus valiosos aportes. El presente informe es la culminación de un estudio estratificada que incluyó relevamiento de datos primarios a nivel nacional en seis países que aplicaron una metodología y herramientas participativas comunes y han sido complementadas con una investigación a nivel regional.

El informe “La Diáspora Colombiana como Agente de Desarrollo Sostenible”, que analiza la dinámica migratoria desde los años 70 hasta la actualidad, incluye una descripción del contexto nacional actual, la evolución histórica de los procesos diaspóricos, incluyendo las políticas públicas, las actividades académicas, las iniciativas de la sociedad civil diaspórica y los proyectos de los actores más relevantes que se están llevando a cabo en la actualidad.

It is now widely recognized that emigrants and their descendants contribute greatly to the development of their countries of origin or ancestry, not only with remittances but also by starting businesses, through exchanges of knowledge, and more. And many migrant-origin countries have invested in connecting with their diaspora and leveraging its contributions.

Effective implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration requires the development of robust research, analysis and data-collection capacities, to ensure coherent and evidence-based policymaking and well-informed public discourse.

The transnational links between countries of origin and countries of destination are one of the most important aspects of the relationship between migration and development. These links or networks woven between migrants and their communities of origin are an opportunity that governments can harness for social, cultural, economic, and political development, in communities of destination as well as of origin.
