This report was elaborated by CeSPI within the context of the four-year programme titled “Engage the Albanian Diaspora to the Social and Economic Development of Albania” (2018–2021), funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of State for Diaspora, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Economy (through the Agency for Direct Investments in Albania (AIDA)) and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Tirana.
CeSPI’s research provides a comprehensive and updated picture of the economic and social trends of Albania’s diaspora community in five regions of Italy (Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Lazio), and an overview of the situation in the Albanian diaspora communities in France and Belgium.
The overall study makes a great effort to profile the Albanian diaspora, collecting a large set of data on the demographic and sociological traits, its economic and professional profile and its relationship with the country of origin, including the likely present and future interest or past experience in investing in or contributing to the homeland.
