Hanyuan (Karen) Wang is a climate entrepreneur with a data science background from China. Her goal is to build technologies to facilitate decision-making in order to combat climate change, especially in developing countries. Karen is a founding member of Carbonbase, a climate technology startup providing carbon accounting software to help institutions meet their net zero goals.
In 2021, Karen’s work has been recognized by UNDP (1st prize at Annual Youth National Dialogue, 2021), and the Social Impact Investment and Sustainability Conference. She was also named one of Forbes’ 30 under 30.
Karen has previously worked at Merrill Lynch and Microsoft and was also a data scientist at Planto, where she developed algorithms for Livi Bank.
Karen currently works as a research assistant at Imperial College’s Centre for Climate Finance and Investment, where her focuses are on the voluntary carbon market, climate risks, and nature-based solutions, especially in the Asia market.
With her Bai ethnic background Karen also dedicates her time to preserving the disappearing Bai dialect in China. Karen is also a 2022 Global Young Leader for SDGs appointed by UN Secretary General Youth Envoy.
