Elana is the co-Director of the MGCY Migration Children and Youth Platform, where she leads youth participation in high level migration advocacy at the UN and state level, including for the Global Compact for Migration process and the Global Forum for Migration and Development, working closely with UNICEF and IOM. She was former Asia and Pacific Regional Focal Point, where she led youth consultations and engagement in the Global Compact for Migration Asia-Pacific Regional Reviews, co-organized the regional Stakeholder Consultation 3 with UNESCO, and coordinated youth speakers and participation at the Review Meeting. She has spoken at multiple conferences and events, including on the civil society side event on the importance of migrant inclusion and sensitivity at the High-Level Political Forum 2021, the 2021 EU Diaspora Facility Future Forum, the 2022 Asia-Pacific Education Ministerial Conference II, the 2022 United Cities and Local Governments World Congress, and recently at the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 International Migration Review Forum. She also co-founded Colours of Edinburgh, a social project operating from 2018-2020 promoting the self-expression of and raising awareness of challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers, and has served on advisory committees on youth engagement, diversity, equality, and inclusion for the Young Presidents Organization Impact Networks, and her alma mater the United World College of Southeast Asia. She holds a BA from King’s College London, an MSc Sociology from the University of Edinburgh, and is currently pursuing an MA International Law from SOAS, University of London, on an International Postgraduate Scholarship. Originally from Malaysia and Singapore, she is currently based in the United Kingdom.
