Third Culture Kids
Youth and their roots: what is it like to be born or grow up as a member of the diaspora; how can the youth connect with their homeland?, Diasporas helping their communities: what is it like to assist communities during a crisis?
I have volunteered my photography services to Sophie & Louise Kanza organization for over 5 years, they were born in Kinshasa, DRCongo and lived in South Africa as asylum seekers for over 20 years. They have mobilized a vibrant movement of diaspora youth, migrants and refugees for advocacy, social cohesion, cultural exchange and good deeds. They hosted community upliftment events, raised funds to provide over 5000 women and girls with sanitary products and have shared their experiences as third culture kids all over the world. They are also award winning producers of an Afrophobia Awareness short film titled Singabantu - We Are Human https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4MocQZSrEw&t=9s
